This family traces back to Frederick Patch, born in 1647. His descendants lived in Tiverton, Devon, England before the family crossed to Danbury, Connecticut in the early 1700s.
A pivotal branch runs through Thompson Philip Patch (1750–1842), who changed the family name from Patch to Partch after a dispute over a family will or another story is Thompson was disliked so much all his kids changed their names to Partch (family lore passed down). His descendants settled in Hinesburg, Vermont, and the Partch spelling carried forward from there.
